Title: Joint protection of batsin cross border regions of Romania and Ukraine by raising environmental awareness in local communities
Acronym: BAT2LIFE
How all has been started?
2 countries 2 wills
Bats in danger
This project was born due to a negative attitude of a large group of local people in the Cross Border area toward bats. This can lead to the degradation of the natural sources, overturning the sustainability of the ecosystem in the targeted territories of Romania and Ukraine.
key elements of the ecosystem
Bats are key element of the ecosystem since they are directly responsible to the agricultural pest control (consuming insects). Due to the myths and fairy tales created by people, bats become subjects of prejudices. The extinction even of one bat species will provide enormous ecological losses and a wide scale of ecosystem collapse.
Project start date: 25 March 2025
Project end date: 25 September 2026

Night Riders – The Bats
Bats are the only mammals capable of true flight, using their wings to actively navigate the night skies. All bat species living in Europe are insectivores, meaning they feed exclusively on insects. So, despite popular myths, you’re unlikely to encounter any vampires or blood-sucking bats swooping around Romania or Ukraine.

Romania and Ukraine are true havens for European bats. With their vast forests, river valleys, old-growth woodlands, abundant caves, and historic buildings, these countries host an impressive variety of bat species — over 30 species in Romania and more than 28 species confirmed in Ukraine.
